Ceylon Safari 2018 - Phase 2 - Exploring the Beauty of the Hill Country

As told by Rtr. Lakith Rambukkanage

Ceylon Safari, as the name suggests, is a wonderful journey across Sri Lanka. Going beyond being just a road trip, Ceylon Safari serves to form life-long friendships while gifting memories to cherish a lifetime, all of which are the outcomes that Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa expects from its signature International Service initiative. Ceylon Safari was organized in 3 phases, all of which were executed in style. Phase 2 of this road trip allowed our friends across oceans to travel through the mist-wrapped Hill Country.

Climbing up the Ella Rock was a long journey, but the path lead through an emerald scenery. Although the whole day had to be spent for the hike, at the end of the day it was worth the effort as the ecstatic beauty of the view numbed the lethargy.

The following day began with a small hike up the Little Adam’s peak with a hint of mist, and the sunlight giving the perfect weather for a hike. The hike was somewhat refreshing rather than tiring as the atmosphere was clean and fresh, unlike in the urban surroundings.

The next destination was an architectural masterpiece, the Nine Arches Bridge, which is not only a breathtaking local landmark but also the astounding content of the photograph embedded in the front of the 50 rupees note as well.

Along the way to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, we rested at the Gregory Park alongside the cyan coloured Gregory lake. Next, we headed to the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic where we worshiped the sacred tooth relic and obtained blessings while witnessing the religious daily rituals.

The phase two of Ceylon Safari ‘18 concluded as we returned to Colombo with many wonderful memories of the Hill Country, but not only that, we returned with many friendships beyond boundaries.

Await the adventurous story of Ceylon Safari ‘18 Phase 3…
