Beginning of a voyage - “Discovering New Horizons”

Marking the inception of another year of service, the 23rd Installation Ceremony of Rotaract Club of University of Moratuwa was held on the 22nd of July 2018 at Civil Auditorium of the University. Rtn. PHF Rohina Macan Markar, President of Rotary Club of Colombo West graced the occasion as the chief guest, along with Dr. Ranga Rodrigo, our Senior Treasurer and Staff Advisor, distinguished Rotarians, Rotaractors, friends and family.

After lighting up the traditional oil lamp, the Rotaract formalities were followed. Then, looking back at a successful year, Rtr. Natasha Kularatne presented the Secretary’s Report for the year 2017/18. She highlighted the outstanding endeavours of our members in the past year, which indeed helped to bring home 23 prestigious awards at the 28th Rotaract District Training Assembly. The outgoing president Rtr. Rashan Wickremaratne, who was the pillar of strength behind all these high achievements, made his final remarks as the president and was undoubtedly able to inspire a lot of young blood in the audience.

Afterwards, the outgoing board of directors were felicitated for their remarkable service and tokens for Spirit of Service were awarded to club members who made an immense contribution in the past year.

Followed by a merry introduction, president for the year 2018/19, Rtr. Paveen Perera, was collared and the gavel was handed over to him by the outgoing president Rtr. Rashan Wickremaratne, amidst the blessings, high spirits and applause of the audience.

Then, Mr. President stepped up to the podium and spoke about how Rotaract helped to develop himself and how he wishes to provide opportunities to Rotaractors to develop themselves while discovering new horizons in the journey through Rotaract. He concluded his speech by emphasizing that “The wolf’s strength is the pack and the pack’s strength is the wolf.”

Afterwards, the new board of directors for the year 2018/19 was introduced. The outgoing president Rtr. Rashan and outgoing secretary Rtr. Natasha were felicitated for their unparalleled service last year and were given a heartfelt send-off.

We express our sincere gratitude towards all the well-wishers for their blessings and good thoughts which indeed strengthened us as we began our new journey.

Let us embark upon the voyage for “Discovering New Horizons”!
